The Tea Plantations
We spent a day in the Central Highlands which is the tea growing region of Sri Lanka, including a trip to a tea plantation and factory to learn how tea is harvested and graded. We sampled the eight varieties below: anti-clockwise from bottom right, white tea, golden tea, green tea, black tea increasing in quality and strength. Some of the tea we sampled was almost worth its weight in gold, so I duly parted with the contents of my wallet and when we are back in the UK we will look forward to our own private tea ceremony of the mellow Flowery Broken Orange pekoe FBOP (top row, second from left).
